Grant Description
U.S. Geological Surveyкs (USGS) Great Lakes Science Center is offering a funding opportunity for research on кTruncating the Competitive Ability of Phragmites by Targeting its Nitrogen-Fixing Bacterial Endophytes.к This research will study endophytic bacteria in Phragmites australis (Common Reed) to characterize bacterial assemblages in seeds and meristematic tissues collected from several sites, conduct 15N2 assimilation experiments to identify sites of nitrogen fixation within plants, and evaluate potential application of a non-environmentally toxic bacterial microbial inhibitor as a method to limit Phragmites growth in low nitrogen environments.
