Grant Description
The US Geological Survey is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for additional analytical support to quantifying past changes in lake-water temperature and chemistry. Analyses of charcoal abundances from previous and ongoing studies in the western United States show that the species distribution varies sensitively in response to these parameters. Detailed reconstruction of the natural variability of paleoclimate and effects on landscapes and vegetation is needed to develop a better understanding of the effects of potential future climate change and to develop sound management practices. The recipientкs will coordinate with USGS scientists to design specific research and sampling strategies in support of Quaternary research in the western U.S. by the USGS.
