Grant Description
The USGS is offering a funding opportunity for research to document food sources used by APC chicks historically and contemporaneously, to elucidate diet switches in post-release animals, and to determine whether these switches are affected by season and year; determine if the apparent switch to diets dominated by plants and insects with C3 signatures from the diet mix of C4 and C3 plants provided to captives is a consequence of choice or availability at the APCNWR; characterize the carbon and nitrogen content of selected plant material and insect biomass used by APCs at the APC National Wildlife Refuge (APCNWR) and correlate it with the profile obtained in blood and feather samples of individuals currently occurring at the Refuge.
