REQUEST FOR INFORMATION FOR POTENTIAL PROJECT TO BE INITIATED THROUGH George Rogers Clark National Historical Park Funding Opportunity Number: FY2014-GERO-YII-0001 Park: George Rogers Clark National Historical Park 401 S. 2nd St. Vincennes, IN 47591 Project title: 2014 Youth Interns: Interpretation Proposed Project Date: 04/04/2014 п 10/29/2014 (29 weeks) Estimated funding available: $8,400 Number of Positions Available: 2 (two positions) Summary: These two (2) positions will work at the George Rogers National Historical Park performing a number of cultural interpretation activities, including traditional interpretation at the Clark Memorial building and the Visitor Center and surrounding grounds. Interns will also conduct tours and visitor orientations, show films, assist at two separate information desks, and interpret other historic sites in partnership with the NPS staff. Interns will also help develop and implement four Junior Ranger Day programs, a two day American Revolutionary War reenactment called the Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous which is attended by 35,000 visitors and an Independence Day celebration attended by 15,000 visitors. Background: George Rogers Clark NHP is located in southwest Indiana in the town of Vincennes. It is 50 miles north of Evansville, Indiana. The George Rogers Clark NHP is a 26-acre historical park adjacent to Vincennes, IN which has a population of 18,000. The park is in a small town agricultural area, but shopping facilities, churches, doctors, hospitals, Vincennes University is in the immediate vicinity. Temperatures range from winter lows in the teens to 20's to summer highs in the 90s. Reasonable rental housing is available within the commuting area. Possible Projects and Work Activities for 2014: ╔ Perform cultural interpretation services including traditional historical interpretation at the Clark Memorial building, Visitor Center, and surrounding formal grounds. ╔ Provide interpretive and visitor services including roving contacts with visitors, conducting tours, orientation presentations, film showings, and information desk services. ╔ Present on-site programs to visitors at the Clark Memorial and nearby Visitor Center, park grounds, and other park locations as assigned. ╔ Conduct Eastern National sales at the Visitor Center. ╔ Help develop and implement, and manage 4 (four) Junior Ranger Day programs that will include hands-on activities for children ages 6-15, a large partnership with the community called the Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous and a large Independence Day celebration. 1 ╔ Sales and services at the Eastern National Visitor Center bookstore. ╔ Help with the planning and participation of the annual historical bike tour. Most contacts are with the general public, school groups (mostly fourth grade) and other park staff. Occasional contacts are made with school teachers, representatives of several park partner historic sites and the National Park Service. Contacts are made to facilitate effective park operations and to provide visitors with a safe, meaningful and enjoyable visit and to interpret the park history and to provide visitor services. The work can be physically demanding, requiring long periods of standing and walking, lifting moderately heavy items, and working in weather extremes. Work is performed indoors and outdoors, inside the visitor center or outside on park grounds or other historic sites. Work on weekends and holidays required. There may be an opportunity for the Interns to receive some training regarding the use of American Revolutionary War-era black power weapons including muskets, long rifles, and cannons. Skills desired: Customer Service - competent with supervision Public Speaking - competent with supervision Educational background desired: Computer - some coursework or experience American History - some coursework or experience Writing/Publishing - some coursework or experience Communications - some coursework or experience Materials Requested for Statement of Information/Qualifications: Prepare a Statement of Information (three-page maximum) including a summary of how you would implement and manage this project in conjunction with NPS staff. Include your name, organization, and contact information, a brief description of the organization and mission, as well as a description of relevant qualifications and experience with recruiting and placement of youth interns, past projects, and staff, faculty, or students who would be available to work on the project. In conjunction with the Statement of Information you are also required to submit a preliminary bid. The Statement of Information and preliminary bid will be reviewed by the NPS in order determine the organization best suited to provide services for this specific project. Final costs and budget will be negotiated following selection of a recipient.
