Grant Description

In coordination with the CDFG and USFWS, CG Roxane (the landowner) would improve, maintain, and manage the Cabin Bar Ranch pond for the benefit of the native tui chub. Improvements would include implementing actions that would enhance water quality, water flow, and water depth; manage/remove nonnative and invasive species; and establish native vegetation in and around the pond. Once improved, the pond would be stocked with tui chub native to the southern Owens Valley. CG Roxane is providing the aquatic site for habitat improvements, hosting a new population of tui chub native to the southern Owens Valley, and implementing habitat improvements and habitat management. California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) and US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) may contribute services toward habitat improvement including water quality analysis, and assisting with removal of non-native species, in the design of the water elevation/flow system, establishing native vegetation at the site, and deterring vandalism. Once improved, CDFG would stock the pond with tui chub native to the southern Owens Valley. The CDFG and US Fish and Wildlife Service would provide authorization to the landowner to maintain and manage the pond for the benefit of the native tui chub.
