The purpose of the Santa Clara River Field Studies and Habitat Restoration Program is to educate students on the importance of habitat restoration and conserving biodiversity. Funding will allow Fillmore Unified School District to bus students to the Santa Clara River where students will have a ╔к_hands on╔к_ experience restoring riparian habitat and connecting with the Santa Clara River ecosystem. Fillmore Unified School District staff will develop the SCR Field Studies Program and implement the program at the FUSD owned Farm Property. School groups of approximately 100 students will participate in 2-five hour field study programs on the Santa Clara River at the Fillmore Unified School District Farm Property. Kindergarten, 3rd grade, 6th grade and 9th grade levels (36 classes and 1320 students) will participate in the program in 2012, 2013 and 2014. SCR Field Studies Program topics will include habitat restoration, land sea connection, listed species recovery stories, how students can help keep common species common, water conservation, pollution (oil spills), phenology, pollinators, native plant and animal species and the SCALE Program (spatial literacy).
