Grant Description

There is no "full announcement" associated with this announcement, as all information is contained within this description. The Northeast Region of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service seeks to develop a partnership to engage communities within the Chesapeake Bay watershed, with an initial focus on the James River in Virginia, for the purposes of wildlife and natural resource conservation planning and design. We seek to work with non-profit organizations that have experience with community outreach, natural resource inventory and analysis, and an understanding of current natural resource conservation initiatives, including those that provide public outdoor educational and recreational opportunities, within the Chesapeake Bay watershed. During the period of performance for this agreement, we expect to have several components of conservation planning and design accomplished on the James River, in part through collaboration with partners as outlined in the cooperative agreement. These include successful completion of a comprehensive conservation plan for the existing James River National Wildlife Refuge, success in implementing goals outlined in the final strategy for implementing Executive Order 13508, Chesapeake Bay Protection and Restoration, and success in achieving goals of the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail. The Service will hire a natural resource planner in 2010 to assist partnership development and to complete the refuge comprehensive conservation plan. Questions relating to this effort shall be addressed to Joe McCauley at Joseph_McCauley@fws.gov.
