This project is the final phase of the South Orient Rail Line Rehabilitation to improve track conditions from Excepted Track to Class 2, track between San Angelo Junction (Coleman County) through Runnels County, to the west side of San Angelo, Texas in Tom Green County, a distance of approximately 82 miles. The project work will include the replacement of two structurally deficient timber rail bridges, repair and rehabilitation of an additional 29 timber rail bridges, the replacement or repair of two defective wooden-box culverts, and the construction of a drainage ditch with rip-rap lining. Existing continuously welded rail (CWR) will be extended to replace jointed rail from within 13 curves, through the spiral and into tangent track and defective jointed rail will be replaced with CWR in another curve. Worn and broken switch points and turnout components will be replaced or welded and re-profiled as necessary as part of the project improvements.
