Grant Description
Funding for this agreement supports a collaborative project between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) and New Mexico State University. This project will 1) build baseline information describing mountain lion use of Chihuahuan Desert habitats: home range sizes, movement rates, and habitat associations; 2) catalog mountain lion prey type and predation; and 3) evaluate the effect of managed water on mountain lion home range sizes, movement rates, habitat associations, prey type, and predation rates. This step may involve manipulation of water provision. The program authorizing statute citation is Research Grants (Generic), 15.650: Fish and Wildlife Act of 1956, as amended, 16 U.S.C. (742f (a)(4); Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, as amended, 16 U.S.C. 661.; Fish and Wildlife Improvement Act of 1978, as amended (16 U.S.C. 753), Land and Water Conservation Fund Act of 1965, as amended (16 U.S.C. 4601 4 through 11), Endangered Species Act of 1973 (16 U.S.C. 1531 to 1543).
