Grant Description
The Los Angeles Zoo (LAZ) has reproduced over 170 California condors in its facility since the start of its participation in this program, releasing over 150 of these chicks into the wild. LAZ has also been the main facility to care for and rehabilitate wild birds that have needed treatment for lead poisoning, treating over 240 California condors in the last eight years. Incubation, chick rearing and medical facility are in need of a complete rebuild. This facility is needed to continue our ability to successfully incubate and raise California condors for release to the wild and treat California condors for any health issues that require extended medical care.
