Grant Description
The CAP Gila River Basin Native Fishes Conservation Program Was established in response to the 1994 2001 and 2008 biological opinions on CAP water transfers to the Gila River basin for the purposes of conserving native aquatic species and managing against nonindigenous aquatic species.Populations of some Gila River native aquatic species are extremely rare in the wild and appear on the verge of extirpation. The GRBNFCP is focused on five federally listed fish species spikedace loach minnow Gila chub Gila topminnow and razorback sucker and the Chiricahua leopard frog identified in the consultations but conservation actions can also include other native fish species in the Gila River basin.
