Grant Description

This project will reduce or eliminate infestations of federal and state listed noxious weeds, and control the spread of these weeds through the use of approved biocontrol agents on Federal lands. The objectives of this project include: 1. Establish approved insects and mites for biocontrol of federal and state listed noxious weeds at sites on Federal installations in Colorado and Wyoming. 2. Redistribute established insects and mites to additional weed infestations as necessary. 3. Monitor the reduction in weed infestations through GPS mapping of infestation perimeters and plant measurements that include density, height, and other parameters. 4. Monitor the ability of biocontrol agents to self-distribute from initial release sites to other weed infestations within an installation. This monitoring may include simple presence/absence sampling or more detailed data collected on biocontrol agent density or plant damage symptoms.
