Grant Description
This is a Notice of Intent to award a Cooperative Agreement to Montana State University, for the purpose of establishing a cooperative research program on fish nutrition and diet development. The tasks to be performed under this agreement are as follows: A. The USFWS will: a.provide funding support; b.share in the responsibilities for determining and assessing the direction of research projects through frequent communication and coordination with project cooperators to ensure that project requirements are met; c.provide scientific expertise and other technical assistance and be directly involved in planning, experiment design, implementation, and sampling of the collaborative research projects, compilation and analysis of data, and interpretation and dissemination of results; d.provide expert guidance and knowledge on fish culture methods and systems, and on fish nutritional needs and diet development; e.provide feed manufacturing and analytical laboratories; and f.participate in writing progress, draft final, and final project reports and publications for scientific peer-reviewed journals. B. Montana State University will: a.share in the responsibilities for determining and assessing the direction of research projects through frequent communication and coordination with project cooperators to ensure that project requirements are met; b.provide scientific expertise in animal nutrition and be directly involved in planning, experiment design, implementation, and sampling of the collaborative research projects, compilation and analysis of data, and interpretation and dissemination of results; c.provide staff time for feed manufacturing, conducting fish nutrition trials, and laboratory analysis of fish, feeds, and feed ingredients; d.provide office space and supplies and computers for data compilation and analyses and for writing of reports and publications; e.provide staff time for consultations on experimental design and statistical analyses; and f.participate in writing progress, draft final, and final project reports and publications for scientific peer-reviewed journals This Single Source Award is being made in accordance with Department of the Interior Policy 505 DM 2.14 B 4 , which allows for award without competition to an applicant Montana State University is also located in Bozeman, Montana. Faculty and students in MSUкs Department of Animal and Range Sciences have scientific expertise and capabilities in the area of animal nutrition, particularly nutritional physiology and protocols and methodologies for designing and conducting nutrition trials, laboratory analyses, and statistical analyses. The Bozeman Fish Technology Center and MSUкs Department of Animal and Range Sciences already have an established foundation to find ways to work together on research projects of mutual interest and benefit, and Department faculty serve as principal and co-advisors on several research projects and graduate programs involving Bozeman Fish Technology Center STEP employees
