Grant Description
In recent decades, the number of fish-eating birds stopping over at Nevada's Walker Lake during the spring and fall migration periods has declined substantially as the lake recedes and becomes increasingly saline. This project represents an effort to develop and implement an expanded monitoring protocol that will produce reliable population estimates and trend analyses. Specifically, this scope will expand the existing survey program geographically, and replicate efforts over expanded time periods within a given survey season in order to identify and capture information about migration peaks. GBBO previously determined that aerial photography surveys were not practical for these study areas, so the methods employed will be a combination of established ground and boat based surveys.
