Grant Description
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking applications that take a systems view to investigate how drought (seasonal and prolonged), exacerbated, by climate change, may impact surface water and groundwater quality and availability. EPA is interested in characterizing and predicting water quality as it relates to drought and subsequent drought related events, such as changes in surface runoff and wildfire. The Agency is also seeking information on changes in water quality that are driven by other variations in the hydrologic cycle (extreme events or climate change). For example, flooding following drought and wildfires, timing and intensity of spring runoff, etc. EPA is also interested in research that investigates management options for communities to plan and adapt to these changing scenarios. The goal of this Request for Applications (RFA) is to provide information on these complex interactions and devise innovative and sustainable management strategies for communities, municipalities, water managers, natural resource managers, and other stakeholders to protect our nationуs ground and surface water resources from potential decrease in water quality and availability.
