Grant Description

The Office of Academic Exchange Programs of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs announces an open competition for the administration of the FY 2013 Tunisia Undergraduate Scholarship Program (Tunisia UGRAD). The total amount of funding for this award will be up to $4,625,000. Public and private non-profit organizations meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 USC 501(c)(3) in the United States may submit proposals to organize and carry out an academic exchange program for students from underrepresented sectors and parts of Tunisia aimed at providing participants with a deeper understanding of American culture and new globallyapplicable skills and expertise to help them contribute to 2 the economic growth and development of their country. The recipient organization will be responsible for the following aspects of the program: recruitment, selection and placement of up to 111 Tunisian students for one academic year at accredited American institutions; roundtrip student travel to the United States; predeparture orientation; enrichment programming; advising; monitoring and support; pre-return activities; evaluation; follow-up with program alumni; and managing/coordinating private-sector contributions to the program. It is expected that up to 37 Tunisian students will participate each academic year for three consecutive years. Support for this program is being provided from the FY 2012/FY 2013 Middle East Response Fund (MERF) resources that have been transferred to the Bureau for obligation in FY 2013.
