Grant Description

The objectives of this project are threefold. First, we will assess the current species occurrence and abundance of small mammals throughout MORU using parkwide sample of plots and to examine how these parameters vary among unthinned forests, those that underwent thinning and chipping treatments, and those that underwent thinning and piling/burning treatments. Second, species colonization/local extinction dynamics will be assessed by combining data with a similar data set conducted prior to 2010 fuels treatments. Third, based on these results, potential management implications will be assessed collaboratively with MORU managers and NPS regional fire managers/ecologists to maximize the practical value of the information
