This is a "Notice of Intent" of a single source task agreement award to University of Minnesota, St. Paul, MN under the Great Lakes Northern Forest Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU). The University of Minnesota is uniquely qualified to work collaboratively with National Park Service MISS staff in beginning to rectify this problem. MISS staff, particularly the Superintendent, have actively sought to be part of regional, full-river partnerships. The University of Minnesota, much of which is located within the MISS boundaries, is a comprehensive research and teaching institution with an international reputation for excellence in a number of key disciplines such as engineering and water resource science. Moreover, the University╔к_s Institute on the Environment is home to the River Life Program, a consortium of University-based and community organizations that is dedicated to establishing stronger links between the campus and the river communities. River Life staff have nearly 2 decades╔к_ collaborative experience up and down the length of the Mississippi, and are uniquely qualified to establish the preliminary study of existing opportunities for collaboration to protect the Mississippi╔к_s great resources.
