Grant Description

The Corporation for National and Community Service (the Corporation) announces the availability of approximately $1 million of Learn and Serve America funds to Indian Tribes to implement service-learning programs focusing on drug abuse prevention, especially methamphetamine. Applicants must propose to work with one or more local school(s) to support youth conducting service-learning projects. Applicants also must propose to work with their respective local methamphetamine task force that is supported by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SMSHA). The competition is devoted to linking youth service to existing local drug abuse prevention efforts and to coordinate with the federal Department of Health and Human Services funding targeting methamphetamine abuse in tribal communities. Eligible applicants include any federally recognized Indian Tribe that is also a recipient of funding from the Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH) and/or SMSHA Indian Country Methamphetamine Initiative. These funds will be awarded to an estimated six to eight eligible applicants, who can apply for up to $180,000 for a three year period.
