As the government lead ministry responsible for the delivery of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment services, the MOHSW is a primary recipient of funds for HIV/AIDS prevention care and treatment activities. The MOHSW has taken its leadership responsibility seriously and is in the process of strenthening its management structure and systems to assure its ability, both in terms of fiscal accountability and managerial leadership, to effectively adminster external funding for HIV/AIDS programs.

Grant Description
CDC’s Procurement and Grants Office has published a program announcement entitled, “Strengthening Health Systems and Coordination for HIV/AIDS Prevention, Careand Treatment Programs in the Kingdom of Swaziland under the President’sEmergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).” Approximately $500,000 will be available to fund approximately one award. The purpose of the program is to assist the Government of the Kingdom of Swaziland(GOKS), the Mininstry of Health and Social Welfare (MOHWS) in particular, in building a sustainable response to the Swaziland HIV/AIDS epidemic, through the rapid expansion of innovative, culturally appropriate and high quality HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment programs. Emphasis will be placed on providing assistance for the development of organizational and human capacity to better coordinate and conduct effective laboratory, surveillance, strategic information, and policy and system strengthening activities.
