Grant Description
The purpose of this program area is to reduce the incidence of acute hepatitis B infection among adults through targeted hepatitis B vaccination of adults who present for medical care in high risk settings or who have behaviors that increase their risk of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. 317 immunization program grantees whose jurisdiction has an incidence of acute hepatitis B that is greater than or equal to 1.2 cases per 100,000 total population based on data from the 2010 National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System (NNDSS) are eligible to apply for funds to support an adult hepatitis B vaccination pilot program. See table at end of this announcement. This project does not include targeting hepatitis B vaccination of healthcare personnel, persons with end-stage renal disease, or international travelers to regions with high or intermediate levels of endemic HBV infection. Vaccination strategies must be consistent with 2006 ACIP hepatitis B vaccination recommendations (http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/rr5516a1.htm?s_cid=rr5516a1_e).
