Eligible Applicants Eligible applicants that can apply for this funding opportunity are listed below: Non-domestic (non-U.S.) entity Eligibility for this FOA is limited due to the requirements considered necessary to carry out the key objectives and activities of the FOA which conducting surveillance, outbreak response and laboratory diagnostics on diseases of public health importance in Bangladesh. The program will be required to carry out multiple surveillance platforms and other public health strengthening activities including mentoring and training junior scientists at the same time. In order to achieve the expected results of the FOA the following are considered necessary: ╔ A certified biosafety level three (BSL-3) laboratory in Bangladesh that is uniquely equipped to perform research and diagnostic testing on samples from surveillance of human and animal populations that are suspected of being highly pathogenic (Nipah virus, avian influenza or unknown pathogens), as well as provide laboratory support to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) in Bangladesh. ╔ Have the legal authority to hire third-country nationals with the technical skills to meet the requirements of the proposed surveillance and outbreak response components in an efficient and timely manner. ╔ Have the legal authority to process supplies, including temperature sensitive reagents, through the customs process in an efficient, cost-effective and timely manner to ensure their viability upon receipt.

Grant Description

To conduct public health surveillance and epidemiological assessments; develop high quality laboratory systems and diagnostic capacity; and implement evidence-based public health programs on infectious diseases of public health importance in Bangladesh, including but not limited, to Zoonotic diseases, Tuberculosis, Influenza and other diseases, including diseases with pandemic potential. Provide training for scientists (including laboratorians), health professionals and fellows/students in health assessment, epidemiology, surveillance, methods for data collection and analysis, and evidence-based program planning, implementation and evaluation. Strengthen local, district and national capacity in Bangladesh to investigate and respond to outbreaks or other public health priorities, and carry-out epidemiological analyses that support national and regional disease prevention and control efforts. Incorporate lessons learned from evaluations and assessments of programs to control and eradicate diseases in Bangladesh, and ensure sharing of expertise with public-health partners in the region. Strengthen global health security including biosafety and biosecurity to prevent the spread of diseases across borders.
