Grant Description

The purpose of this award is to support the expansion of HIV services in Nigeria by supporting the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) to successfully implement a strategy of decentralization and integration of these services at the Primary Health Care level in Nigeria. Congruent with the fact that successful expansion of quality HIV services depends on the holistic strengthening of Nigeria’s overall health system and the concurrent marriage of HIV services with ongoing efforts in other priority health areas, and pursuant with the mandate provided under PEPFAR authorizing legislation and the principles of integration and leveraging of health systems investments in a strategic and coordinated manner, this award seeks to do the following: 1. To support NPHCDA to collaborate with FMoH and SMoH to develop and implement locally relevant packages of priority health interventions that respond to specific Public Health needs of Nigerian communities. 2. To support NPHCDA to collaborate with relevant Federal, State, and Local government institutions to develop effective strategies and policies for the implementation of appropriate and adequate staffing at the PHC level, in accordance with the NSHDP and in support of the decentralization of HIV services to these facilities. 3. To support NPHCDA to build on the successes of the Midwifery Service Scheme to deliver personnel-based strategies for addressing priority health needs, including HIV, Tuberculosis, Malaria, and other related areas at the PHC-level in Nigeria.
