Eligibility for these supplemental awards is limited to current ELC grantees that have experienced at least one outbreak investigation from January 1, 2006 until present that was caused by unsafe injection practices and resulted in notification of at least 1,000 patients. The following ELC grantees are the only ones that meet this eligibility criteria, therefore only these grantees are eligible to apply: CI04-040: Nevada, New Jersey, New York City, New York State, North Carolina CI07-701: Colorado

Grant Description
CDC’s Procurement and Grants Office has published a funding opportunity announcement entitled, “Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases (ELC) Injection Safety-Message Testing and Pilot Evaluation of a Communication Campaign to Promote Safe Injection Practices. Approximately $600,00 will be available in fiscal year 2009 to fund two awards. The purpose of the ELC cooperative agreement program is to assist state public health agencies improve surveillance for, and response to, infectious diseases by (1) strengthening epidemiologic capacity; (2) enhancing laboratory practice; (3) improving information systems; and (4) developing and implementing prevention and control strategies.
