Grant Description

The purpose of the program is to assist the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the evaluation of the Core VIPP program. The goal of this project is to enhance state evaluation of injury and violence prevention efforts; particularly their ability to synthesize, translate, and disseminate evaluation findings for continuous quality improvement and for health impact. The recipient will also partner with CDC to evaluate the overall impact of the program on violence and injury-related morbidity and mortality, on risk and protective factors associated with violence and injury, and on state health department infrastructure to implement and sustain injury and violence prevention work. The ultimate goal of the Core VIPP is to support State Health Departments (SHDs) in the dissemination, implementation, and evaluation of programs, practices, and policies with the best available research evidence in order to decrease and prevent injury and violence related morbidity and mortality. The CDC evaluation team is committed to using the CDC Framework for Program Evaluation in Public Health (http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/rr4811a1.htm) to guide the design and implementation of this project. This program addresses the “Healthy People 2020” focus area of Injury and Violence Prevention.
