Grant Description

The purpose of NVDRS is to maintain and enhance the capacity of applicants to collect and disseminate accurate, timely, and comprehensive surveillance data on violent deaths. Specifically, funding enables applicants to collect comprehensive descriptions of violent deaths by integrating information across death certificates, coroner reports, medical examiner reports, and law enforcement reports in a standardized manner. The collection of surveillance data on violent deaths is designed to enhance the effectiveness of violence prevention efforts implemented by stakeholders and ultimately reduce violent deaths. The dissemination of NVDRS data to key stakeholders such as community groups, government agencies, and the public informs prevention efforts about the magnitude, trends, and characteristics of violent deaths so that appropriate violence prevention efforts can be identified, selected, targeted, implemented and evaluated.
