Specifically, applicants will 1) complete ongoing collection of comprehensive surveillance data on all violent deaths occurring in 2012 across three required data sources, death certificate, coroner/medical examiner report, and law enforcement reports, 2) collect preliminary data for all violent deaths occurring in 2013 from at least one data source (death certificate, coroner/medical examiner report, or law enforcement report) including abstractor manner of death and 3) initiate data collection on a portion of violent deaths occurring between January 1, 2014 and April 30, 2014. The collection and use of this data is designed to support the national goal of reducing and preventing violent death in the United States and supporting systematic collection of data on violent deaths across all 50 states.
