Grant Description
The U.S. Fish Wildlife Service (Service) and partners, including the CA Department of Fish and Game (CDFG), are establishing Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCCs) to address challenges such as climate change. LCCs are applied conservation partnerships between the Service, CDFG, other government and non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders within a defined geographic area in California. The CA LCC is charged with providing scientific and technical support for landscape-scale conservation in an adaptive management framework that emphasizes science-based biological planning, conservation design, research, inventory and monitoring. This agreement will further the goals of the Service and the LCCs by supporting close coordination by the Service, CA LCC, and CDFG. The agreement will benefit the public by promoting consistency among federal, state, and local climate change response activities, leveraging critical public and private resources, enhancing the effectiveness of management through science, and increasing the base, breadth and strength of human capital that will be required to address the environmental, economic, cultural and social challenges resulting from climate change. The California Wildlife Foundation (CWF) is uniquely suited to provide the coordination between the Service, LCCs, and CDFG. Period of service anticipated to end September 30, 2015. Cost share amount is $49,591.
