This is a single source award to Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology contains well known experts in both design and methodology of acoustic recordings and assessing avian abundance, diversity, behavior, ecology, health, management, and conservation. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology uses new techniques and equipment that are not currently available for purchase. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has past experience in assisting the National Park Service in avian projects, and specifically Congaree National Park with projects involving acoustic monitoring for rare species. The Cooperator has demostrated track record for completion of projects on time and on budget with excellent quality. The cooperator maintains the largest collection of recorded bird vocalizations, and has the equipment, experience, expertise, and proven ability to conduct this type of research in an efficient and effective manner. Similar work has been conducted by Cornell related to the Federally Endangered Ivory-billed Woodpecker in South Carolina.

Grant Description
The overall goal of this work is the deployment and analysis of autonomous recording units (ARUs) placed inremote locations within Congaree National Park in order to detect endangered avian specis including Bachman's Warbler (Vermivora bachmanii), the Ivory-billed Woodpecker (Campephilus principalis) and other species of management concern.
