Grant Description

The purpose of this project is to attempt mechanical removal of green sunfish within Redfield Canyon. Teams using electrofishing equipment and nets, will capture and remove sunfish from the sections of Redfield Canyon between the State land/downstream private property boundary in Section 31 and the impassable natural barriers about one mile upstream. Two capture sessions each year will be made until the sunfish are eradicated. If the green sunfish have not been eradicated by the end of year 3, the CAP Program will evaluate the prospects for control of green sunfish, and consider funding efforts for an additional two years. The Muleshoe Cooperative Management Area (CMA) in southeastern Arizona is cooperatively managed by The Nature Conservancy (TNC), Bureau of Land Management, and U.S. Forest Service.
