Public school districts and accredited private educational institutions located in the U.S. and its territories that offer science classes at the middle school level (Grades 6-8), and whose nominated teachers have successfully completed the NIST Summer Institute Program. Such school districts and institutions must offer instruction in general science fields, such as earth science, physical science, chemistry, physics, and/or biology. Public middle schools and teachers are not eligible to submit applications directly to NIST. Each applicant public school district and accredited private educational institution located in the U.S. and its territories is limited to nominating no more than one (1) teacher per middle school in its school district or institution for participation in the NIST RET Program. For example, if there are 20 middle schools within a school district, the school district may nominate up to 20 teachers, which is one (1) teacher per middle school. The individual teachers that are nominated to participate in the NIST RET Program must meet the eligibility requirements in Section III.1. of the FFO document.

Grant Description

NIST is soliciting applications from eligible public school districts and accredited private educational institutions located in the U.S. and its territories nominating middle school science teachers, who have successfully completed the NIST Summer Institute for Middle School Science Teachers (NIST Summer Institute) Program, to participate in the NIST RET Program. The NIST RET Program will allow the selected teachers to participate in scientific research with NIST scientists and engineers at the NIST Campus in Gaithersburg, Maryland. There are two ways to apply to the program: by paper submission or by electronic submission.
