Hispanic Grants
Hispanic Grants For College
Because Hispanic students have been largely underrepresented in colleges and universities throughout the United States, many organizations and corporations have implemented grant and scholarship programs to help students afford tuition costs.
The Hispanic College Fund
The Hispanic College Fund (HCF) provides millions of dollars annually to Hispanic high school and college students. The HCF has created a number of scholarships and grant opportunities to help Hispanic students pay for college. Applications for the 2013-14 academic year are no longer available.
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) is the largest nonprofit organization that supports Hispanics in the pursuit of higher education. The HSF offers opportunities for graduating high school seniors, college students, graduate students and community college students. Only students enrolled in full-time programs are eligible for grants. Because the HSF offers a variety of programs, consult the website to learn about specific opportunities, application requirements and deadlines.
Los Padres Foundation
The Los Padres Foundation provides college tuition assistance to Puerto Rican and Latino students in New York City and New Jersey. Because first generation students face many barriers to the pursuit of higher education, the Foundation targets students who will be the first in their family to go to college. Students must be considered low income and maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average. The Los Padres Foundation awards students a maximum of $2,000 as a stipend to students who qualify and continue to meet participation requirements. Renewal stipends are available to students who continue to meet the requirements for participation, academic achievement and community involvement.
The Gilbert Rios Memorial Award
The Gilbert Rios Memorial Award is a $5,000 grant that is awarded to Hispanic students who intend to enroll in a full-time graduate program. This competitive grant is awarded to one male and one female student each year. Doctoral students are not eligible to apply for this award.
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) provides educational support and opportunities for career advancement to Latino students. The CHCI’s scholarship program provides financial assistance to Latino students who have a demonstrated commitment to public service. The CHCI provides students with $5,000 for graduate students, $2,500 for undergraduate students and $1,000 to students pursuing an associate degree. These one-time awards are distributed according to the expected length of the program. Disbursements will continue to be granted as long as the student remains in good standing academically.
Other Hispanic Grants
Hispanic Heritage Foundation
The Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) is a non-profit organization that aims to promote Latino leadership throughout America. It offers a variety of scholarship and training opportunities to students and Latino professionals. The HHF collaborates with business sponsors who create fellowships and job opportunities for young Latino professionals. The Latinos on the Fast Track (LOFT) program identifies, trains and places young Latino professionals in management track positions in key fields such as business and education. LOFT members receive leadership training through summits and symposiums. They also are connected to mentors in their field.
