Grant Description

This cooperative project focuses on understanding impacts that neighbors are having on open space lands within the Santa Monica Mountains and surrounding regions and seeking opportunities to encourage positive stewardship actions instead of negative actions through targeted communication campaigns, programming, or other applicable approaches. Goals include 1) greater understanding of community impacts (both positive and negative) on open space. 2) Identification of areas that are ripe for behavior change through communication and outreach. 3) Outline of approach to target problem areas. 4) Pilot of at least one communication campaign with metrics to evaluate success or failure. Deliverables include: 1) Short report (5-15 pages) on impact areas identified. 2) Brief strategy document for affecting behavior change. 3) Pilot of communication campaign in target area. 4) Evaluation of pilot project. 5) Final report. Recipient will be involved in all aspects of the project. Recipient will identify impact areas on their lands and assist in identifying impact areas on NPS lands. Recipient will draft reports and work with NPS staff to design and implement pilot project.
